Hallo Michael,

ich bin immer wieder überrascht, dass Ihr mich immer noch überraschen könnt."GRINS"

Astreine Arbeit, Tolle Idee.

Michael

Hello,

Here is my solution for whoever is interested. Total time to cut and install: 15 minutes.

  • Table legs are aluminium, so almost no added weight. Make and model are visible on the photos. Easy to find on the internet.
  • Legs are screwed (6 small screws) into the wooden back of the mattress.
  • The legs fold in and fit in the original bag, so no increased bag size. Bag fits perfectly in the garage.
  • Bed is very stable and fits easily for a person of 1,80 metres. At the top (gap between camper side-wall and mattress) you put a blanket or pillow (i.e. directly on the flattened table), on top of which you put your sleeping pillow. All 4 legs are cut to the same length. The bottom plastic cover of the legs has 2 screws, so after cutting to right length and putting the covers back on, everything looks (almost) original.
  • Also possible for persons up to 1,95 metres, but then the bottom-legs should be placed in the camper-door exit. That means they have a different length from the middle legs.
  • It literally takes 2 minutes to set up and you don't have to remove the back section of the bench seat which otherwise tends to wear out the velcro and the back of the bench seat.

Enjoy.

Hello,

This solution looks very good.

I have also done and solution for an additional bed.

Can you tell me which table legs you have used. Iam not so happy with my legs.

Thanks

@opc844: Details of make and model of the table legs are shown in the picture with the horizontal legs (click and enlarge picture).

But for convenience: Make = "Novus". Model = "Klaptafelpoot met bovenknik - zwart"

I bought these at a camping store in the Netherlands (in a town called Schijndel), which is about as big as that other camping store in NL that everyone knows. You can order the table legs online. Please note that it has to be the one called 'bovenknik'. There is another Novus table leg ('middenknik') you could order, but that one does not work for my purposes since I want the legs to fully fold away against the mattress.

To complement my previous post and to avoid disappointment: 'stable' for me means that it is perfectly fine for an adult person to sleep on (including turning from one side to the other without the mattress suddenly folding, moving sideways or breaking down). The main stability comes from the fact that part of the upper body is still carried by the lowered table-top itself). 'Stable' in the context of my described solution does not mean that the mattress is completely immobile (like your bed at home would be). There will always be some 'rocking movement' in the lower part of the mattress. The Novus table legs simply do not have a wide enough base (caused by the folding mechanism) to stop all movement by a person.

If you want perfect stability, I guess the best option is to put some 'block legs' (that have a much wider base) under the mattress, but these are generally not foldable and then the mattress becomes (too) bulky to store easily in the camper garage or even to carry into the camper in the evening. If you are still looking for that sort of stability, then maybe you could consider bigger legs that can be screwed on/off from the mattress (I believe the big Swedish furniture store used to sell this type of legs for some for their office furniture tables), but that is just too much hassle every day for my taste.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
